Thanks so much for popping up on our radar screen! Without a doubt, our approach is somewhat different from other school districts. So, I'll address all three of your concerns:

1.) In essence, all we are doing is opening up our guest network so that kids can bring in their own device...it's really that simple. As an owner of a computer, I need to figure out where to go if it needs to be serviced; it is simply cost prohibitive for the district to assume the responsibility for repairing all devices. We are providing names of local repair shops, as well as encouraging parents to buy extended warranties.

2.) As far as consistency, we do not feel as though requiring parents to buy a specific device and/or software is realistic. We are looking into the possibility of buying some devices in bulk, thus reducing the large disparity of different kinds of devices and software. It is also true that the real world requires people to be fluent in many different types of technologies, thus the desire to instill flexibility and adaptability becomes even more important in today's world.

3.) We are looking into the availability of discounted software. Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated!
